To coincide with our new funk and soul party Hot Pants Road here in Jersey City on February 6th at The Citizen, we have put together an all live, 45 RPM mix of music you’ll hear if you come to the party. It’s a hearty mix of raw funk and soul, northern, some modern tracks, and assorted funky nuggets for your listening pleasure. I’ll be joined this time by Pat James Longo, aka Primitive Sound System who will be laying down a heavy set of tunes from his endless crates. We will be writing up a full report on the party in the weeks to come. However, if you’d like to get your groove on early, practice some dance steps, and get on your own dance floor early, The Real Thing will help you. This mix was recorded live in all one take using all 45 RPM records. Please enjoy it in all of its pop and click, and even a skip glory. You don’t have a second chance to do it live, so deal with it. Stay tuned for more info about the party. Tri-State area, mark your calendars for February 6th, it’s gonna be a funky good time.

If you are in or around Jersey City, NJ tonight, you’re in for a treat. FleaMarket Funk is starting a new night called All Funked Up! The venue? Transmission, a new space in the warehouse district of the city. We’ve done a few one offs here since last year and they liked what we were putting down so we’re going weekly. Every Wednesday night ‘In The Lounge’, we will be spinning deep funk and raw soul, funky jazz, original samples, real reggae, and other funky deep cuts all night. We may throw in some quality hip hop from time to time, but we want to keep it funky. The vibe is chill. The formula simple: Good music. Good People. Good vibes. We’re looking to build this up to a strong night, with music that sets us apart from others. In our opinion, Jersey City needs it. So if you want to hear some different music in a relaxed, one of a kind atmosphere, come on down to Transmission on Wednesday nights in Jersey City. Let us take you on a journey through sound. You may know some of the music, most of it you may not, but there is one thing for sure. It’s gonna be funky.

Another Fall, and another residency for DJ Prestige at The Ace Hotel in New York City. One of his favorite places to spin in NYC, he will be behind the decks every Friday night in September. Expect some funky stuff: From Lou Donaldson to J.Dilla, Lee Perry to Pete Rock, Thin Lizzy to Queen, he will keep it moving like a good mix tape, working doubles of all those drum breaks you love. Of course the price of admission is free and open to all ages, so slide on down to the Ace, have a drink, and listen to some great tunes from 8pm until late. Here’s a warm up mix he did this past year for his first residency:
On Wednesday July 22nd, FleaMarket Funk joins forces with Sociedad Record’s Christian Martir spinning funky latin, funk, and other assorted funky goodies at the Jungle Fire show at Meridian 23 in NYC. Martir controls the helm at one of the realest Latin labels out there, so you know his record bag will be packed with some great boogaloo, salsa, and much more. The man has heavy crates. Jungle Fire, based out of Los Angeles, will be supporting their first full length record, Tropicoso, and a string of hot 7″ dancers on Colemine Records. The show starts at 9PM, and it’s a $10 cover.
