DJ Prestige x Ace Hotel NYC

NYC_lobbynights_insta_FRI (1)

Fridays in March, DJ Prestige takes up a monthly residency at the Ace Hotel lobby in NYC.  Here’s what the Ace had to say about him:

“DJ Prestige runs FleaMarketFunk.com, where he rescues forgotten funk, soul, jazz, reggae & hip hop records while promoting the sounds of independent artists making the same type of music today. His eclectic sets in the Lobby will take you back, back into time and into the future. On his Friday night live mix tape, expect lots of original samples, soundtrack cuts, hard hitting drum breaks, and other funky classics. Bring an open mind.”

Hot Pants Road: An All Funk & Soul Dance Party #JerseyCity

Real Thing Sampler MixTo coincide with our new funk and soul party Hot Pants Road here in Jersey City on February 6th at The Citizen, we have put together an all live, 45 RPM mix of music you’ll hear if you come to the party. It’s a hearty mix of raw funk and soul, northern, some modern tracks, and assorted funky nuggets for your listening pleasure. I’ll be joined this time by Pat James Longo, aka Primitive Sound System who will be laying down a heavy set of tunes from his endless crates. We will be writing up a full report on the party in the weeks to come. However, if you’d like to get your groove on early, practice some dance steps, and get on your own dance floor early, The Real Thing will help you. This mix was recorded live in all one take using all 45 RPM records. Please enjoy it in all of its pop and click, and even a skip glory. You don’t have a second chance to do it live, so deal with it. Stay tuned for more info about the party. Tri-State area, mark your calendars for February 6th, it’s gonna be a funky good time.

Where Does The Sun Go At Night? A Deep Jazz Mix

Where Does The Sun Go At NightWhen we are not spinning funky stuff, we listen to jazz records. All kinds of jazz records. For a long time though, we’ve been really into deeper jazz cuts. A mix between spiritual jazz, free jazz, and stuff that we would like to classify as “out there”. There is something special about the music, the players, the back story of each artist and the songs they play. It’s been a while since we did a straight up jazz mix, so we combined mostly early 70’s experimental stuff with one cut from a guy who embodies the same mind state as these cats in the present day. To us, there is nothing better than a song that takes you off to another place, another time, or another astral plane. it removes you from your present state and allows you to listen. Here are a dozen deep jazz cuts for your listening pleasure. Sometimes funky, sometimes free, these tunes were meant to be listened to and heard. So if you can hear what we’re saying, let us know. The mix is 100% vinyl and done all live and in one take. Please enjoy and pass to a friend if you dig what you hear.
